Yes, you read the thread title correctly. I am running an orphanage. How does this work? I have created some shifters (more on that below) which are available for you to adopt. They can be bought with Karma Points.
I don't know why you ought to buy a character rather than create your own, but if you do fall in love with any of these boys or girls, then they are yours to claim and adopt. CONTRACTMY RESPONSIBILITIES * every character is unique and distinctive * every character has a ready-made profile (you fill out the Origins Apartment application yourself if you want to live there) * every character more or less has a "nice" or at least "agreeable" personality (to balance the fact that my characters are often jerks... it's really not my fault, they write themselves)
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES * you will only make changes to the "suggested" areas * you will try to keep true to the personality description provided (alright, not really a requirement, but otherwise why would you adopt the character?) * you will love your adoptee and treat him/her well ORPHANS Alain Bordeaux - 50 KP Paris Nacheon - 50 KP Olivia Kitch - 50 KP EUGENICSFor a negotiable price, I will create a character for you. Given rudimentary instructions, I'll then write up a detailed physical and personality profile (history can be included) which you can use.
If you want me to do the following, please fill out the following form and PM it to me.

ORPHAN ONE: ALAIN BORDEAUXDEMOGRAPHIC
Name: Alain Bordeaux (suggested) Age: 25 (suggested) Gender: Male Shift: Barred owl Nationality: Cajun / Creole / Irish Sexuality: Straight (suggested) Religion: Catholic (suggested) Politics: Conservative (suggested) Occupation: garbage collector (suggested) Residence: Verge Apartments (suggested)
AESTHETIC
Appearance: There is a lazy, effortless Southern rapture about him, eyebrows arched haughtily above heavy-lidded ochre eyes. The pupils are always dilated for a playful, neurotic gaze rimmed by long thick lashes. Sensuous lips bear a confident smile, the bottom lip slightly fuller. Unruly hair is short in front, messy strawberry-blonde locks scattered every which way; in the back, the mass shades to dark persimmon. Tawny-gray feathers with dark brown-gray bars actually stick out of his hair, a tuft tucked behind each ear. Fair-skinned, his light peach complexion sunburns easily and freckles adorn his shoulders and cheeks. He wears a slight, uneven stubble, the strawberry-blonde bristles not altogether noticeable until they darken near his chin and gathers into a scraggly goatee. Strawberry-blonde fuzz on his arms and legs adds a touch of masculinity, as does the persimmon chest hair. Attire: Always dressed in tattered and stained clothing, he has a black vest with a substantial chunk ripped out the front. The sleeves on the scarlet jacket he wears are rolled back to his elbow. Dirty faded jeans are held up by a leather cord, their frayed hems covering reddish leather boots. A necklace of small bones dangles from his neck, numerous alligators have contributed their teeth to his belt, and claws from other beasts form a bracelet on his left bicep. The other items he carries include gris-gris, a rabbit foot charm, several wishbones, and marbles. A large stag skull has been strung on a cord and he wears it at an angle across his head, no doubt under the impression that it lends him a "rakish" look. Headshot:
played by Courtney Gains (suggested)
PSYCHOLOGICAL
Personality: Psycho. Or so they say. As a rule, he is excitable, hyperactive, impulsive, sarcastic, cocky, playful, and generally over-enthused in his demeanour. Awfully eager, he is thrilled even by trifles and acts on instinct rather then better judgement (if he has any judgement at all). With a glibly unflappable wit, he tends to play mischievous pranks though never meaning harm. His openness and good nature do not allow him to bear grudges; conversely, his dimpled smile and slippery silver tongue can talk others into forgiving him. Often acting for an audience, he will go to any ends to please or impress others, with a dog-like love of praise and attention. He cannot tolerate to be ignored or overlooked and will resort to provoking anger if necessary, but he lives on applause and laughter more than anything else. A very sociable creature, he hates solitude, and a world without others is a world without meaning. As long as he is not alone by himself, he is insanely and completely ebullient. Perpetually optimistic, his self-confidence and strong conviction that "everything will turn out fine in the end" is sometimes alarming. Partially because he was raised to believe absolutely that good beats evil, he cannot imagine otherwise. Never entirely concentrated or focused on one individual thing, he is fickle and whimsical, unable to fix his attention to any one thing. Given to distractions, he will often leave off what he was doing in favour of a new object or diversion that has stolen his interest. Hard to follow and harder yet to predict, he has established the role of a flamboyant maverick for himself, and enjoys it for all it’s worth. Unthinkingly daring, his courage and valour have been applauded by those who do not quite understand that all his bravado is really due to a lack of common sense. His rash actions have led him into many uncomfortable situations and tight corners; however, he has never regretted his hasty plunges. Very quick and sharp in his own way, he nonetheless suffers from some innate social awareness. Oblivious to the fact that his casual remarks could come across abrasive, crass, or crude, he has had to be taught basic etiquette. Still, he is studious, obedient and tries his hardest to be good. He follows instructions with all the reverence given to religious catechism - until he forgets, at least. But those who know him agree that whatever his faults, he has his merits too. At heart, he unfailingly embodies helpfulness and good cheer. Likes: gris-gris, rabbit paws, the night, pranks, charms, superstitions, trinkets, garbage, fried foods, witchcraft (suggested) Dislikes: bright lights, raccoons ('coons), cleanliness, people who don't understand how religion can be reconciled with voodoo (suggested) Hobbies: practising voodoo (suggested)
SOCIETAL
HISTORY Parental/Early: Born in Bayou Lafourche, Louisiana, Alain’s mother was the sort of woman that couldn’t be sure who his father was. She named him Alain after her sweetheart, figuring it was as good a name as any. And then, God bless her warm and creamy soul which had given respite to so many lonely men, she died. Leaving behind a child with reddish-blonde hair, carrying both her Irish heritage and blood of the French creoles she entertained. Childhood: Bordeaux, his actual father and a frequent patron to the brothel boarding house where Alain's mother lived, was rather devastated but saw in the boy's olive eyes something of his mother’s lovely green-gold gaze. He took the baby to his creole family. Though fair-skinned, Alain grew up among coloured creoles and never felt any different from them. He adopted the thick Cajun twang, accented with coloured slang. It would never cease to amaze and shock some of his mother’s former clients when they met a young Alain, a spitting image of what his mother may have looked like had she been born a boy, chattering in a tongue they could not begin to comprehend. Little Alain was raised with the same motley mix of religion his family subscribed to. He went to the local Catholic gathering every Sunday, learned his catechism like any good Catholic boy would, sang as a choir boy, and made voodoo dolls in his spare time. He adored his older "brother" Pierre, and went hunting in the bayou with him. Pierre trained Alain to retrieve game, in lieu of the pointer dog they couldn’t afford. In no time, Alain was quite an expert at wading the swamps and marshes to come back with the carcass of some duck or thrush; in fact, he soon became so adept at foraging the bayou that he started to catch his own game with rudimentary snares and traps, and his bare hands. You could say that Alain was a few cans short of a six-pack. He didn’t understand the difference between catching ducks, and catching people. As cleverly-constructed pits and nooses begin appearing in their little town, eventually causing a river steamboat crewman to break his leg, Alain’s "mother" took it into her hands to teach him some common sense. Adolescence: What he lacked in basic awareness, he made up for with his innocence and good nature. Thanks to Pierre, however, he could never quite shake his affinity for dead animals, bones, skulls, and other charms that he would collect, trophies of lost lives. Though he never killed anything out of cruelty or for the fun of it, he started skinning or stuffing the prey he caught, keeping them to reanimate when he mastered the necromantic branch of voodoo arts. Alain doesn’t see his hobby as a form of "devil arts" or "witchcraft". He is quite wary of both, given his Christian beliefs, but he can’t see anything so harmless as being "black magic"... he’s just trying to give life back to some dead animals, and didn’t the Good Lord do that Himself when He resurrected Lazarus? Besides, zombie pets would be fun to have around. Nonetheless, the clergy were not excited about Alain's hobbies and odd beliefs. It became worse when he first shifted. Alain loved shifting - loved the silent muffled flight, the stretch and grind of growing pains as his frame was reorganized. Unfortunately, owls, particularly the screeching Barred Owl variety, were considered demonic henchmen. When he was seen actually shifting by a neighbour, she brought the news to the church, where Father John banished Alain from their community on charges of practising not only witchcraft, but flying and keeping the Devil himself company. Adulthood: At the age of eighteen, his mother tearfully bid him goodbye and Alain started up the river on a steamboat, cheerful and undaunted, determined to make a name for himself as the first voodoo-Catholic priest. Penniless, with only the clothes on his back and a vague dream of settling down in a small town, finding a pretty girl, and spending the rest of his life making good-luck talisman and brewing love potions to sell. Current: Alain found his way up north, and eventually to the shifter complex founded by MyShift Inc. RELATIONSHIPS Family: * Serafina (mother) - a prostitute who died giving birth to Alain, she was Irish, with vibrant red hair and golden-green eyes. He inherited his mother's looks, albeit diluted. * Remy Bordeaux (father) - a steam boat captain who travelled the Mississippi river quite frequently, he was a regular customer of Serafina's, claiming and loving Alain as his son. * Pierre (adopted brother) - Alain learned everything he knew about voodoo and hunting from Pierre. Acquaintances: * none yet
